Based on the mandate of the Federal Council, PLANAT fulfils the following coordination tasks:

Exchange

Strategy builds on exchange

PLANAT engages in targeted exchanges with organisations and individuals in order to exploit synergies, gain insights and align the strategy for dealing with risks from natural hazards with related strategies.

In regular dialogue with the Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and the Environment (DETEC), PLANAT provides information and raises awareness about the implementation of the strategy and raises expectations.

PLANAT members and the staff at the office use their network to plan measures against risks in a holistic manner, even beyond the area of natural hazards.

Conferences

At its conferences, PLANAT brings together people with an interest in natural hazards from science, insurance companies, the private sector and all levels of administration. It shares strategic recommendations and gathers practical needs in order to coordinate further work accordingly.

With an overview of all natural hazards in the legislative process

By commenting on legislative revisions and strategy papers, PLANAT ensures optimal coordination in the area of natural hazards. PLANAT clarifies technical issues internally and with external partners.

Learning and passing on experience beyond Switzerland

International

PLANAT is in dialogue with partner platforms and international institutions. It utilises good examples for the Swiss context and shares experiences and concepts such as the IRM with interested parties. As the Swiss focal point for monitoring the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, PLANAT coordinates the reporting and the preparation of the accountability reports.
